My take on the pandemic.

There was a time in late December when the realization that experiencing a pandemic was a strong possibility. At that time NO ONE knew what to do. No world leaders, no governors, no mayors, and no medical professionals.  Many mistakes were made everywhere which contributed to the early extremely high spread and mortality rate.

There was a time in early March when everyone knew what to do. Stay separate, no large groups, social distance, wear masks and constant hygiene. New York City had the worst outbreak in the country. The origin of that outbreak came from Europe. The dense population, dense employment environments, the use of mass transit, Broadway, concerts, restaurants, sports etc. made NY the epicenter of American Corona virus. New Yorkers, as usual, were up to the task. They closed down and stayed home. They wore masks. They followed guidelines. It was obvious to New Yorkers that this was real. When bodies were being stored in refrigerator trucks outside of hospitals it was apparent that all lives were at risk. As a result of the action taken in New York the virus leveled off and treatments became better so less people are becoming infected and more people are surviving. The risk is very real that this could change very quickly and revert to extreme disease.

Now this must be said.

The point in time where science was instructing us exactly what was needed to limit infection is where it all went wrong. At that point in time there was only one person in the US that could have changed everything. If Donald Trump went to the American people in early March and said without any faulter that the pandemic was absolutely real and extremely dangerous he could have motivated this country to all follow the same rules, take the same precautions, contact trace the disease to limit its spread while the pharma industry tries to develop both vaccines and treatment. That tactic would have shortened the epidemic stage of the pandemic and would have ended up costing far less in lives and dollars than the total breakdown of leadership we currently have has cost us. Just imagine the Trump base all taking this seriously because they were instructed to do so by the president. Imagine if wearing or not wearing a mask was NOT a sign of political party but a referendum on being a moral American. Protect yourself and protect others.

 I have heard of decisions being made about Personal Protection Equipment and ventilators being made more accessible to some states verses others. I have heard of the “profit aspect” of this pandemic being part of planning at the top. I have heard of references of certain demographics dying at a greater rate with no care or empathy from the top of the administration. The sad truth is that the wolf led the sheep. The ugly lies on how this was a hoax, how mandating wearing masks was a sign of loss of freedom, how God will protect me from the virus although not so much grandma, all drastically drove the intense increases of corona virus in states with a different demographic than mentioned above. The reddest of states are on fire.

An example of on fire is Florida. Approximately 6 months ago, New York was raging and had over 300 thousand cases. At that time Florida, with 200 thousand cases, followed the leader and behaved nothing like NY which was leveling off the virus statistics. Florida allowed businesses and beaches and spring break to go on like nothing was happening. Now, 6 months later, NY has 470 thousand cases and Florida has over 700 thousand cases and they just opened schools. Lambs to slaughter.

The utterly sad result of this arrogance and ignorance now has the very top of the US federal Government in virus crisis. The shame of this is that the president will receive the absolute best possible care while his administration is trying to dismantle the Affordable Care Act and knock 30 million people off healthcare during a pandemic.

The way the republican party has enabled this president to destroy democratic norms they now have a situation where they are complicit in the deaths of many Americans and the number is growing. Going forward many more of those Americans will be red state republicans.  If the president survives, he will find a way to blame the Dems. And while their loved ones are sick and dying, his cult will accept both the loss and his explanation. HISTORY WILL EXPOSE THE TRUTH.
